We are so excited for you to be joining our classrooms for the 2015 - 2016 school year. Students will be immersed in a Project-Based Learning (PBL) classroom in which students will learn the 4th grader curriculum by creating a meaningful question to explore, an engaging real-world problem to solve, or challenging students to design something within their collaborative groups. We will be integrating 4th grade Math, Science, Social Studies, Writing and ELA standards which will be utilized to complete meaningful projects that impact others while meeting the essential components of PBL.
All of the 4th grade classrooms will be implementing AVID (Advancement Via Independent Determination) to promote student success in college and career readiness. Your child will succeed in the AVID Program through writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. Your child will be provided with a binder to be able to practice with their organizational skills which will remain at the school and a red homework folder for any assignments. On Friday, August 21, 4th grade students will come together to construct their binders so that the entire grade level will have the same set-up.
For the first three days of school, your child will be practicing procedures and will have the the opportunity to get to know their teacher and fellow classmates so that the classes can establish a classroom community in which meaningful and engaging learning takes place in a safe environment. We want for all students to have the chance to learn in their own way and be willing to open up to new ideas. We are very excited for the school year to begin and hope that you are as well. We cannot wait to begin our journey through 4th grade!
