A New Brand for Pontiac PBL

What a wonderful first few weeks of school!  Fourth grade has been learning a lot and there is so much more to explore.  Students are currently working on their third PBL project, I Am Awesome, in which they will learn about the Landbrige Theory and the five Native American Groups in North America (The Eastern Woodlands, The Great Plains, The Southwest Dessert, The Great Basin, and The Pacific Northwest).  Students will collaborate in their groups in order to create an interactive map to depict the cultures, types of shelter, etc. about each Native American group.  To further provide students with hands-on learning, on Wednesday, September 14, the fourth grade will be traveling to the Lexington County Museum.  If you are able to chaperone, we would love to have you join and assist in the Native American activities that your child will participate in.
In math, we are covering multiplication, the end of unit test will be Friday, September 16.  Please ensure that your child is completing any assignments given to help practice their math skills.  Once we have completed the unit on multiplication, students will explore patterns.  With the patterns unit, fourth grade will begin learning math through blended learning.  Blended learning incorporates technology, quick checks, one-on-one or small group instruction, and station work (student choice), to allow students to learn at their own pace.
In ELA, students will learn the components of theme.  They will also continue reading independently during the school day in order to build their reading stamina.  The unit on theme will take about two weeks to cover and there will be an end of unit test to follow.

Welcome to the 2016 - 2017 School Year!

Welcome Back Pontiac Parrots!!!

The fourth grade teachers are excited for the 2016 - 2017 school year!  We had a wonderful first three days building classroom communities.  We have a lot going on this upcoming week.  Your child will learn about AVID and put together their binder to begin learning organizational skills.  We will also start our very first Project Based Learning (PBL) project of the year, in which the fourth graders will create a logo for our PBL Brand.  Students will also work on their Digital Citizenship project in order to learn online safety.  In math, we will begin by learning place values and in ELA students will learn part of speech.

If you have not returned the Handbook form that was sent home this past Thursday, August, 18th, please do so as soon as you can.  Pontiac needs to return these forms to the district.  Also, please be sure to follow us on Twitter.  peblueprint
